Pharmacological properties
A combined anthelmintic drug with a broad spectrum of action on round and tapeworms of all stages of development.
Praziquantel is a synthetic compound, a derivative of quinoline, which disrupts the permeability of helminth cell membranes for calcium ions, which leads to inhibition of glucose metabolism, destruction of cell membranes in parasites, their paralysis and death. It is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and reaches its maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1-3 hours, the bioavailability of praziquantel is about 80%. It is metabolized in the liver with the formation of inactive metabolites, excreted from the body with urine, partly with feces. The half-life is about 1.5 hours.
Pyrantel pamoate is a tetrahydropyrimidine derivative, active against nematodes of all forms of development, blocks the transmission of nerve impulses in neuromuscular synapses by depolarizing the membranes of muscle cells, thereby causing paralysis of the muscular system of nematodes. Almost not absorbed from the intestine, due to which the anthelmintic effect is prolonged. It is excreted from the body mainly unchanged (93%) with feces. Indications
Treatment and prevention of dogs and cats with nematodosis (toxocariasis, toxascariasis, uncinariasis, trichuriasis, ancylostomiasis), cestodiasis (teniasis, dipylidiosis, echinococcosis, diphyllobothriasis, mesocestoidosis) and mixed nematodosis-cestodosis invasions caused by Toxocara canis, Toxocara mistax, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria spp., Trichuris vulpis, Ancylostoma spp., Echinococcus granulosus, Alveococus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Dipylidium caninum, Diphyllobotrium latum, Multiceps multiceps, Taenia spp.
