Composition and release form
Serenia contains in 1 ml:
maropitant citrate - 10 mg,
excipients:
metacresol - 3.3 mg,
sulfobutyl ether-cyclodextrin sodium - 63 mg and water for injection - up to 1 ml.
In appearance, the drug is a transparent liquid of light yellow color.
The drug is packaged in 20 ml in dark glass bottles, sealed with rubber stoppers, reinforced with aluminum caps.
The bottles are packed in individual cardboard boxes.
Each box with the drug includes instructions for its use.
Pharmacological properties
Serenia belongs to the group of antiemetic drugs.
The active substance of Serenia - maropitant citrate - is a neurokinin receptor antagonist (NK1) and inhibits the binding of substance P, a tachykinin group neuropeptide, in the central nervous system.
Maropitant citrate is effective against vomiting of both central and peripheral origin. Maropitant is rapidly absorbed from the injection site and reaches its maximum concentration in the blood plasma 45 minutes after administration.
Maropitant is more than 99% bound to plasma proteins.
The bioavailability of Serenia is 90%.
Maropitant is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 and is excreted mainly in feces.
According to the degree of impact on the body, maropitant citrate is classified as a moderately hazardous substance.
Indications
Prescribed for dogs and cats to prevent vomiting caused by moving the animal (motion sickness syndrome), as well as for other pathologies accompanied by vomiting.
Dosage and administration
Sereniya injection solution is administered subcutaneously only at a dose of 1 mg of maropitant citrate per 1 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 1 ml of the drug per 10 kg of animal weight, once a day for no more than 5 days.
Symptoms of overdose have not been established.
No special effects have been identified when starting or stopping the drug.
Avoid skipping the next dose of the drug, as this may lead to a decrease in effectiveness.
If one dose is missed, the course of treatment should be resumed in the dosages and application regimen specified in the instructions.
Side effects
When using Sereniya in accordance with the instructions, side effects and complications are generally not observed.
Allergic reactions are possible in hypersensitive animals.
In some cases, salivation, lethargy, loss of appetite and diarrhea are noted.
If allergic reactions occur, stop using the drug and prescribe antihistamines and symptomatic treatment.
Contraindications
Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. It is prohibited to use in pregnant and lactating animals.
It is not recommended to prescribe to puppies under 16 weeks of age.
Special instructions
It is recommended to use Serenia after consultation with a veterinarian.
It is recommended to prescribe with caution to animals with liver diseases and a predisposition to cardiovascular diseases.
There is no information on the interaction of Serenia with other drugs.
The drug is not intended for use in productive animals.
Personal prevention measures
When working with Serenia, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions provided for when working with drugs. After working with the drug, wash your hands with soap.
In case of accidental contact of the drug with the skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, they must be washed with plenty of water.
People with hypersensitivity to the components of Serenia should avoid direct contact with the drug.
In case of allergic reactions or accidental ingestion of the drug, you should immediately contact a medical institution (have the instructions for use of the drug or the label with you).
Empty vials of the drug are prohibited from being used for household purposes, they are subject to disposal with household waste.
Storage conditions
In the manufacturer's sealed packaging, in a dry place protected from the sun, inaccessible to children.
Separately from food and feed at a temperature of 3ºС to 25ºС.
The shelf life of the drug, subject to storage conditions, is 36 months from the date of manufacture.
After part of the drug has been taken from the vial, subject to aseptic rules and the specified storage conditions, it can be used repeatedly for 90 days.
It is prohibited to use Serenia after the expiration date.
Unused drugs are disposed of in accordance with legal requirements.
