Description
The ointment is white or white with a slightly yellowish tint, of uniform consistency.
Composition
1 g of ointment contains the active ingredients:
chloramphenicol (levomycetin) - 7.5 mg, methyluracil 40 mg.
Excipients: macrogol 400, macrogol 1500.
Pharmacological properties
ATCvet QD03AX - veterinary drugs that promote healing (scarring) of wounds.
A combined drug for topical use with antibacterial, reparative and anti-inflammatory effects.
Chloramphenicol, which is part of the drug, has an antimicrobial effect, the mechanism of which is associated with a violation of the synthesis of proteins of microorganisms. It has a bacteriostatic effect, is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli).
Methyluracil accelerates the processes of cellular regeneration, promotes wound healing and has an anti-inflammatory effect. The polyethylene oxide base adsorbs wound exudate, potentiates the activity of medicinal substances. In the presence of pus or necrotic masses, the antibacterial effect of the drug is preserved.
The drug easily penetrates tissues without damaging biological membranes, but the degree of systemic absorption after application of the drug to the skin, wounds and mucous membranes is unknown. Vetmekol belongs to practically non-toxic drugs (toxicity class IV).
Application
Treatment of dogs, cats and horses with infected tissue wounds caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active substances of the drug.
Dosage
Vetmekol is used locally in the first phase of the wound healing process. The drug is applied in a thin layer to the damaged surface (if necessary, perform primary surgical treatment of the wound) 1-2 times a day. In case of ointment administration into purulent cavities, sterile gauze pads are soaked in it and the wound is filled. It is possible to administer the ointment into purulent cavities through a catheter (drainage tube) using a syringe. In such cases, Vetmekol is preheated to 35-36 ° C. Dressings are applied daily until the wounds are completely cleared of purulent-necrotic masses and their granulation.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity and course of the disease. The recommended course of treatment is 14 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Do not use the drug for fungal skin lesions. Do not use for productive animals.
Attention
Use of antibacterial agents for external use may lead to skin sensitization, which is accompanied by the development of hypersensitivity reactions after further use of this drug externally or in the form of a systemic dosage form. Avoid contact of the ointment with the mucous membrane of the eyes and mouth. Personnel working with the drug must adhere to the basic hygiene and safety rules adopted for working with veterinary drugs.
