Flat-cylindrical tablets with a notch, uncoated, yellow, odorless.
Pharmacological properties
TCvet QP52, veterinary anthelmintic drugs (QP52AA01, praziquantel; QP52AF02, pyrantel)
The spectrum of anthelmintic action of the drug Wormicil is based on the pharmacological action of the components of the drug - pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel.
Pyrantel pamoate (embonate) is active against nematodes (round helminths), acts on their cholinergic receptors, causing irreversible spastic paralysis. Dead nematodes are excreted from the animal's body by peristaltic movements of the intestine. However, pyrantel is not active against migratory larval stages of helminths.
In the mammalian body, pyrantel is poorly absorbed in the digestive tract and after oral administration at a dose of 10 mg / kg of body weight, its concentration in the blood plasma is 0.005-0.13 μg / ml after 1-3 hours. Pyrantel absorbed into the circulatory system is partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine.
Praziquantel is active against cestodes (tapeworms), is quickly absorbed by the entire surface of the parasites and is evenly distributed throughout the body. Praziquantel increases the permeability of membranes for calcium ions, causes an increase in muscle activity, which is changed by its contraction and spastic paralysis, causes the destruction of the outer cuticle in adult forms of cestodes. In some cases, tapeworms are completely digested by digestive enzymes and are not found in feces.
In mammals, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract. Its highest concentration in blood plasma is achieved 1-2 hours after administration, it is rapidly metabolized and excreted up to 80% as metabolites by the kidneys within 4 days, with 90% excreted in the first 24 hours.
