Description:
Transparent colorless liquid.

Composition:
100 ml of the drug contains the active substance:

novocaine (procaine hydrochloride) 0.5 g.

Excipients: hydrochloric acid, distilled water.

Pharmacological properties:
0.5% novocaine solution is a local anesthetic with moderate activity and a wide range of therapeutic action. The anesthetic effect of novocaine manifests itself quickly, but short-term, its mechanism is associated with the blockade of sodium channels, inhibition of potassium current, a decrease in the surface tension of the phospholipid layer of membranes, inhibition of oxidation-reduction processes and the generation of nerve impulses. When procaine hydrochloride enters the bloodstream, it reduces the formation of acetylcholine, reduces the excitability of peripheral cholinergic systems, cardiac muscle, motor zones of the cerebral cortex; blocks the action of autonomic ganglia; reduces smooth muscle spasms.

When administered parenterally, the drug is rapidly absorbed, hydrolyzed to form two main pharmacologically active metabolites: diethylaminoethanol (moderate vasodilatory effect) and para-aminobenzoic acid (a component of the folic acid molecule, antihistamine effect, activation of detoxification processes, antisulfanilamide effect).

Novocaine is the least toxic local anesthetic for animals.

Application:
For the treatment of animals (local, infiltration anesthesia, therapeutic blockade) during external and abdominal surgeries; in obstetric and gynecological practice (mastitis, metritis, endometritis, retention of placenta, prolapse of the uterus and vagina); ophthalmology (keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, eye inflammation in horses, respiratory diseases (hyperemia and pulmonary edema, bronchopneumonia); diseases of the abdominal cavity (gastric ulcer, atony with tympany of the forestomachs, spastic colic, mechanical intestinal obstruction; traumatic reticuloperitonitis); spasms of blood vessels; wounds that slowly granulate, ulcers, fistulas, myositis, papillomatosis.

A 0.5% solution of novocaine is used to dissolve antibiotics, prolonging their action.

Dosage:
Doses and routes of administration of the drug depend on the purpose of use (infiltration of the solution into tissues, at the site of nerve passage, intravenously or intra-arterially is possible). It is also possible to use the drug as a solvent for dry forms of antibiotics.

Maximum single doses of 0.5% novocaine solution per animal (ml):

horses 400-500;

cattle 300-400;

dogs 100.

Before administration, the drug solution is heated to the animal's body temperature.

Intravenously, the drug is administered slowly.

Contraindications:
Hypotension, purulent processes at the injection site.

Side effects:
An allergic skin reaction in the form of urticaria is possible.

Precautions:
When using novocaine solution, allergic reactions in the form of idiosyncrasy are possible.

Intravenous injections of the drug in maximum doses cause excitation, and intra-arterial ones cause inhibition of the cerebral cortex.

The drug is incompatible with tannins, alkalis, oxidizers, salts of heavy metals, hexamethylenetetramine (urotropin), sulfonamides. Sulfonamides weaken the anesthetic effect of novocaine.

With intravenous administration of novocaine, the muscle relaxant effect of ditilin is enhanced. Simultaneous use of novocaine and novocainamide leads to an increase in the effect of the latter. Cross-sensitization is also possible.

Production form:
Glass bottles, sealed with rubber stoppers under aluminum rolling, 10, 50, 100 and 200 ml.

Storage:
Dry, dark, inaccessible to children place at a temperature of 5 to 25 ºС.

Shelf life: 2 years.
